Exodus

If you’re looking for swanky good views and fine cuisine, this spot’s got it all.

Located inside Kuningan City Mall on the Casablanca road, Exodus is a new entertainment complex in Jakarta. A restaurant, a lounge, and a club occupy three floors on one side of the mall. At the time of our visit, the restaurant is the only one fully operational. We were, taken on a short tour of the other two floors. They are almost done, and based on what we saw, Exodus could become a triple threat of entertainment options in the capital. Watch this space.

Opened on July 27 this year, the restaurant is quite striking. A big wooden door welcomes you, and once you step inside, you’ll see a large open kitchen area on your left and an elongated bar on the right. The room is dominated by the pale-colored wood of the furniture and gorgeous décor, contrasting nicely with the black ceiling. The space is bright and airy, with a stunning view of Jakarta’s skyline to boot. The huge window seating area will definitely be a hit with patrons.

There’s also a big stage on one side of the restaurant with a DJ booth next to it. We were informed by the staff that there are bands that will perform jazzy materials for guests, and the DJs will take over later in the evening. Call up for the details of Exodus’ entertainers, if you’re into it.

The food here leans more towards Western fares. We started with the Ribs Mini Burger (75k); a trio of bite-size burgers which could be a wonderful appetizer or snack. Next up, the Spicy Tuna (80k); seared fresh tuna served with smoked beef bacon, and warm egg white scallion and jalapeño.

For the main course, we chose a couple of noteworthy dishes here. First, the Chilean Sea Bass (240k), laid on a bed of mashed mascarpone potato, topped with beans and spinach mix, and served with a tangy tomato salsa on the side.

The Veal Osso Bucco (210k) is another delicious dish; the tender veal is served with fried crisp mushroom risotto, melted cheese, and eggplant caviar balsamic in courgettes. Visually, it may not look like much, but taste-wise, it’s delightful! The fried risotto comes as a pleasant surprise.

All you carnivores can rejoice with Exodus’ options of grilled steaks. There are Wagyu Tenderloin and Sirloin to choose from, as well as Lamb Chop and Rib Eye. A small number of grilled seafood is also available.

But if there’s one dish that you should definitely go for, it’s the one that is only available by request! It’s a signature dish created by Exodus’ Executive Sous Chef; the Wagyu Rossini (450k). Indulge yourself with the premium grade Wagyu beef, topped with rich foie gras, served with a caramelized apple, special tamarind barbecue sauce. Exquisite. Just exquisite!

For the dessert, you can’t go wrong with the Twice Baked Bittersweet Chocolate (60k). And as for drinks, we chose the Blue Margarita (95k) and the Mint Cooler (70k) for cocktails, and the Coconut Kiss (75k) was our choice of mocktail.

Exodus is a new place in town certainly worth checking out. (Budi Iskandar).
