Editorial Jakarta 64

I must say we are very honoured to have the likes of Morrissey in Jakarta and I think the large crowd that turned out to see his concert last week should be congratulated for the way they conducted themselves. Screaming, jumping up and down, trying to get on the stage (even if they were young men with flowers) and some managing to; it all summed up to an exciting show and exciting crowd. That’s exactly the way a live concert should be.

Next week on Thursday May 24 The Beat Magazine is celebrating 12 years of existence in Indonesia. This magazine and in particular, the edition published in Bali, was the first free street-press publication to hit the streets of this country back in the beginning of 2000. It’s been a rocking, and challenging at times, 12 years as we, a total of many dozens of people over the years, have put together this magazine every two weeks without fail. I would like thank all of them for their contributions over those years and all you readers that have stuck by us through thick and thin.

The anniversary party will be held at Red Square, a venue that has given us more support than any since starting in Jakarta again for the second time in October 2009. We have a great line-up for the night with DJ James Sullivan and DJ Milinka, who will also be raising funds for her charity. You can read all about that MLM charity inside. There will be a free flow from our generous sponsors including wines from Watershed, a top Margaret River producer, Dekuyper cocktails and Absolut vodka from 10 to 11pm or until finished. Look out for an invitation for that part of the evening. Great music, dancers and giveaways will keep the night going long and hard. Everyone is welcome and thank you all for your support of The Beat magazine over the past 12 years.

Check inside for all the details of the events coming our way in the next two weeks and if you have any events coming up, let us know as soon as possible by sending an email to jakarta@beatmag.com.
