It’s amazing how many different levels of consumption, lifestyle and nightlife there are in Jakarta. It seems that there is something and a place for everyone. There are people with very little resources to people who have an over-abundance of everything. And there are a whole bunch of people who learn quickly how to get a piece of the action. If they don’t they are likely to be smothered. It may be a dog eat dog world at times or appear to be unfair, but generally it all seems to work out in the end. From the high flying hot-shot buying drinks for all around them, to the dude just trying to hang on and survive there is a place for everyone and everyone has a job to do or some knowledge to pass on. The women are looking for something and so are the men, let’s make no mistake about that. It’s all about the negotiation for a good time, a family, a better house, car, sex or a completely new lifestyle, and I’m sure people are getting thirstier for it as we go through these first years of this decade. It’s heady stuff out there and the nightlife is definitely a focal point for the madness, and don’t we love it.
