A United States citizen was sentenced to six months imprisonment on Wednesday for possessing marijuana by the Denpasar District Court.
The man has been identified as Henry Rice Scobee (54) and has accepted the sentence which was lighter than the nine months demanded by the prosecution.
The court took into consideration mitigating factors including it was the defendants first offence and that he admitted and showed remorse for his actions as well as a promise to never do drugs again.
The man was reportedly a retired contractor who police arrested on May 3 after finding 0.98 grams of marijuana in his home stay on Jl. Raya Legian, Kuta.
The convicted man then claimed he was an addict, but could not produce any evidence that he had seeked treatment other than a statement made by a methadone clinic in Kuta claiming that he was a heroin addict.
