Aussies Top Arrival Figures Again in January

Australia once again topped the list for most arrivals into Bali last month, January 2012, while China sees the greatest percentage increase. “There were 63,704 Aussies arriving in Bali during January, which was an increase of 8.40 percent over the same month the previous year,” said the head of the Bali Central Statistics Agency, I Gede Suarsa in Denpasar on Friday. According to Suarsa, most of the Australians came through Ngurah Rai airport with direct flights from their country, while only 999 arrived through the sea ports on cruise ships or yachts. The strong Aussie dollar and close proximity are key factors for the Australian visitor to our shores and with those conditions Australia was able to contribute 25.15 percent of the total 253 286 foreign tourists visiting Bali in January. There was an increase of 21.14 percent over the same month in 2011, which recorded 209,093 people one year ago. From the top ten countries supplying most of the tourists to Bali during the month of January, eight countries increased their numbers encouragingly, and only two countries showed a decrease. The other two top movers on the increase, and mainly due to Chinese New Year this year being in January, were China with a whopping 222.18 per cent from 17,102 to 55,099, and Taiwanese by 20.11 percent from 9717 people to 11 671 people. Malaysia, South Korea, Singapore, The United States, and British numbers were also up. “The two countries that decreased their travel to Bali in January were Japan from 16,747 people to just 12,805 and Russia from 11,499 to 10,907 people,” said Gede Suarsa.
