Whose Canvas | Helmut Kand

An Austrian artist, Helmut Kand is always on the lookout. On his travels through the continents, he gathers sights, notions, desires, experiences, pleasures and half-finished daydreams. Color is the first thing about his pictures, which attracts attention and captures the gaze and stimuli to explore his content.

The paintings invite reflection of one possible reality of our world, enhanced with moods, visions, thrills, joy, eroticism and irony while remaining true to the poetic surrealism on which it is based. Intended excursions to the daydream world provoke cheerfulness, sensuality and reflection, arousing the desire for an expedition into his art.

Studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, he has made numerous exhibitions in Europe, Australia, USA, Canada, Argentina, Japan, Malaysia, Indonesia and Argentina that has helped to make him internationally known.

The current Bali exhibition, Heart in Bali – Head in Vienna includes 13 wooden sculptures carved by Balinese artist Ketut Radio and surrealistically painted by Helmut Kand and his team of Bali artisans. It will be displayed until April 17 at Warisan Restaurant, Bar & Galleries.
