SOGO opened on the December 16 and according to the Store Manager, Pak Junarso Wilantiko the soft opening has been going extremely well. He says, “With the present situation (the recent downturn of tourist numbers) we were obviously concerned opening at this time, but in all truth, it has been quite satisfactory. Many people have been dropping in from all over Bali to shop and browse and the figures are looking quite healthy.” SOGO is strategically placed to cater for commuting shoppers with good access from just about anywhere in southern Bali. Via the By-Pass Road, SOGO and the Bali Collection, for that matter, is an easy drive and one could well imagine, a pleasant day out for many mobile shoppers around town. Still being in the soft opening phase, Pak Junarso says they are still finalizing the layout of the store and will be seeing new changes and brands coming over the next months before the store finally holds their Grand Opening some time in February/March.
In closing I asked the manager what cut SOGO above the rest in the department store game and he said, “It would have to be the quality of the goods and the service we provide. The staff is trained to give that extra touch of attention every time they deal with our customers.”
