“Fusion of Talents” at the Alila Ubud Gallery is a surprisingly different collective exhibition. For its “summer show”, which will be running for the next two months, the gallery presents the works of four artists I Made Aget, I Made Mudra, Gembul Untoro and Gde Suteja, all multi- talented and all staff of the Alila Hotel as well! Their works combine to form an interesting and unusual concept, to say the least.Opening on Friday May 6th the exhibition opening hosted an auction where a single four hand painting, a collaboration between the four artists, was auctioned off and proceeds given to the “Back to school fund” (Kids Education Management Bali). The group exhibition features paintings selected from the four artists’ respective collections, The Ying Yang, Color of Bali, Life and Wayang Collection.
Each of the four artists expresses, through their own vision and individual perspective, Bali with a singular style and technique. Gde Suteja is inspired by “Wayang”, the traditional leather puppet of Indonesia, I Made Aget uses ink to produce black & white drawings of detailed Barong and Meditation scenes. More contemporary techniques & perspectives appear in the works of Gembul Untoro & I Made Mudra, who play with colors, shapes & lines in an abstract impressionist style. This interesting combination of artists and techniques was put together for and gathered at the Alila Ubud as a “Fusion of Talents” in a show that will be running until July 6th 2005.
