CrossBottom Hit The Majors

Music speaks louder than words…. A poem I heard from my friend about 7 years ago. After meeting CrossBottom, I realized the truth of this. Founded by Andji, Gundul, Pagon and Anton in 1996 when they were in senior high school, the three describe CrossBottom as a form of media through which they can express themselves. “I can’t lie when I write a song…I express what I feel”, says Gundul.

Practising diligently, trying to get gigs and playing every high school and university in Jogja, CrossBottom have been intent on success. By 1997 the band was a serious rival for SheilaGank (now Sheila on 7) I Hate Mondays (now Mondays) and No Rain (now The Rain). They’ve been fortunate to open for a host of big Jakarta band performing in Jogja, including Power Metal and PAS Band. Their style has changed over the years now, less rocking now their sound is more alternative pop with a pinch of country thrown in.
Each member of CrossBottom claim different influences but they all agree that The Doors, Pearl Jam, Coldplay, Counting Crows, Live and Radiohead are all inspirations.

Eight years is a long time and over the years they’ve lost personnel – but they’ve continued undeterred, determined to make their dream come true and get signed to a major label. And now at last it’s happened. They’ve just signed a six album deal with Sony Indonesia. This year they released their debut entitled “9” featuring single “9 tahun lamanya” (“9 years long”) and a mix of differently paced songs. It’s taken a while, but finally they’ve broken through. Check them live and you’ll see why. And buy the album! Well done guys…
